The Mac file manager for
people who make things

Built for designers and developers. Native, keyboard-first and works offline.
Everything Finder does, and the parts it never got to.

A Finder replacement, rebuilt around the keyboard. Folders side by side, a command for everything, and the tools you would otherwise open three other apps for.

Keyboard first. Every action is a key or a command away. The mouse is optional.

Fast on huge folders. Listing happens off the main thread, and long lists scroll smoothly.

Works offline. No account and no cloud. Once your license is active, Burrow never needs the internet.

Every folder,
side by side

Split into up to four panes and drag between them, or copy across with F5. Keep a tab for each task, then save the whole layout as a workspace to reopen tomorrow. Split panes and tabs

Split panesUp to four folders side by side, as a 2×2 grid.

TabsA tab per task, dragged into the order you like.

WorkspacesSave a set of tabs and panes and reopen it in one go.

Markdown notes
beside your files

A Markdown editor sits right in the window. Keep a note per day, track tasks with dates, and see a folder of notes as a board, a gallery or a calendar. Export to PDF or HTML when it's ready to share. Notes and folder databases

Today's noteOne note per day, made the first time you ask for it.

TasksCheckboxes with due dates. Open tasks that mention a file show in its preview.

Board, gallery, calendarThe same files as cards, pictures or dates.

Image tools,
built in

Cut out a subject, copy the text from a screenshot, make @1x, @2x and @3x sets, or strip the location from a photo before you send it. All on your Mac, from the selection bar or ⌘K. Burrow's image tools

Remove BackgroundLift the subject out of any picture.

Copy TextRead the words in an image or a scanned PDF.

Photo privacyRemove location and camera details before you share.

Review git changes
in place

Changed files carry a badge, and folders with changes inside get a dot. ⇧⌘U opens Review Changes: the diffs beside the files, refreshed every two seconds. Space stages, ⌘↩ commits, and pull, push, branches, stashes and history are a click away. Burrow never takes git's lock, so it can't block an agent's own git. Burrow for developers

GitDiffs, staging and commits; pull, push, branches, stashes and history.

TerminalA real shell under your files, in the folder you're in.

Code and hex previewsRead source, config and binary files in place.

  • Yours to keepIt keeps working after that, and works offline.

What happens after the trial?

Burrow asks for a license. Your folders, sidebar and settings are all kept, ready for when you activate one.

How do I move to a new Mac?

In Burrow, open Customize ▸ License and click Release This Mac, then activate on the new one. You can also release a Mac from Polar's customer portal.

What happens after a year?

Burrow keeps working, with every version released in the year after you bought it. Later versions aren't included, and nothing you have stops working.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of buying, no questions asked. Email [email protected] or use the link in your Polar receipt. Refund policy

Does it work offline?

Yes. Activating a license needs the internet once. After that Burrow works offline; when you are online it checks the license now and then, and checks for updates.

Questions about Burrow

How is Burrow different from Finder?

It's built around the keyboard. Every action is in the ⌘K palette, folders sit side by side, and notes, image fixes, git and a terminal are right there.

Do I need to move my files into Burrow?

No. Burrow shows the folders already on your Mac. Tags are Finder tags, and Quick Look and the Trash work as you'd expect.

Which Macs can run it?

Any Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.

Can Burrow connect to servers?

Yes. Connect to Server (⌃⌘K) opens SFTP servers in a pane through your Mac's own ssh, so your ~/.ssh/config hosts, keys and agent work. Upload, download, edit files in place, and open a terminal there. It also opens SMB, AFP, NFS and WebDAV shares, and FTP read-only. Cloud storage such as Amazon S3, and FTP upload, aren't supported.

Is it on the Mac App Store?

Not yet. Burrow is downloaded directly from this site.
